About
Welcome to Chicken Licken Croydon, a hidden gem located at 90 Brabazon Rd in the heart of Kempton Park, South Africa. Known for its flavorful fried chicken, this establishment has made a name for itself among local food enthusiasts. As a food reviewer for Menu Buzz, I had the pleasure of diving into their menu, and I must say, it’s worth a visit — though with a few caveats.
The star of the show here is undoubtedly the chicken. Reviewers, like Mrs. G, have noted that the chicken has evolved in its seasoning; gone are the days of overwhelming saltiness. Now, it offers a well-balanced flavor profile, complemented by a subtle heat that keeps your taste buds engaged. Each bite feels fresh, which is truly commendable for a fast-food establishment.
However, not everything is perfect. While the chicken shines, the sides could use some improvement. Mrs. G pointed out that the chips often lack seasoning and can be a bit dry—a sentiment I can empathize with. On the other hand, the achaar and coleslaw are crowd-pleasers that bring a burst of flavor, making them worthy companion dishes.
One notable aspect of Chicken Licken Croydon is its inviting atmosphere. The restaurant maintains a clean and tidy interior, which adds to the overall dining experience. Nevertheless, it’s essential to be mindful of the surrounding area, especially after dark, as the local environment has its share of unsightly activity.
As for the menu, there are murmurs of nostalgia among patrons who wish to see beloved dishes like the chickwich and taxi 2 make a comeback. Variety is the spice of life, and incorporating old favorites could reignite enthusiasm among loyal customers.
In a nutshell, Chicken Licken Croydon manages to deliver tasty chicken in a clean environment, although it may need to revisit some of its side offerings and menu options. If you find yourself in the area, this spot might just satisfy your cravings for crispy, flavorful chicken. Just be cautious about the timing of your visit, and enjoy the culinary journey this vibrant eatery has to offer!
“ This chicken has gone from being overly salty to being seasoned just right with a slight heat to it! Tasty and fresh every time! The chips do need a little help as it’s not seasoned at all and is most times quite dry but the achaar and coleslaw is so delicious! I would like to see some of the old favorites on the menu again as the chickwich and taxi 2 was a hit and some variety will be welcomed! The sliders if not made fresh can sometimes be rather dry and for a chicken place it’s surprising that the burger patties are not made from actual chicken meat (like a breast piece) but rather pressed chicken patties which is so dry. This store inside is very clean and tidy and has a flyer thru but the shopping complex that it is situated in is rather sketchy and unsightly with the surrounding car booth drinking going on so avoid going there after dark. ”
